Sommelier Society Core Instructor Tad Drouet
The wine bug bit Tad Drouet at 21 while traveling through Europe in 1988. During that trip on Christmas Eve in the town of Bordeaux, he tasted his first great bottle - a St-Emilion. Once Drouet decided to make his newfound passion his vocation, he enrolled in his first wine course, Kevin Zraly's class at Windows on the World. He then enrolled in the Sommelier Society of America's Captains Course for sommelier certification. Drouet also attended the prestigious London Wine & Spirit Education Trust course of study, earning the Higher Certificate (with Honors) as well as the Diploma (a rigorous 2-year program). He is also a Certified Wine Educator (CWE) through the Society of Wine Educators.
Drouet's goal was to gain enough wine knowledge to work for one of the top three quality wine distributors in New York. (He achieved this, landing a position with his first choice). In 1998 Drouet left his career in the pharmaceutical industry to pursue his passion full time. Currently, Drouet is a wine Sales Representative with Michael Skurnik Wines, one of the most respected wine importers / distributors in the United States (operating in the New York and New Jersey area.)
A Board member and Instructor for the Sommelier Society of America, Drouet has designed and taught numerous classes for industry professionals as well as consumers. He is also an instructor for the International Wine Center, which administers the Wine & Spirits Education Trust classes in the US. He has conducted private tasting events for groups of all sizes and levels, and has created themes tailored to customer preferences. He enjoys sharing his knowledge with both the beginner and the connoisseur in the classroom as well as casual venues.
Drouet lives in New York City and delights in his visits to wineries wherever he travels (including states throughout the US, Australia, Chile, Germany, Austria, Italy, and France.)
