The Sommelier Society of America
The Sommelier Society of America is the nation's oldest wine teaching organization. Founded in 1954, we are devoted to creating a vital wine society for the passionate consumer, the oenophile, as well as industry professionals who know us and continue to send us their people. We are located in New York City where we host our flagship Twenty-One Week Certificate Course , as well as other events.
Recognizing that there are various levels of skill and knowledge, we are committed to making the enjoyment and appreciation of wine an option for everyone.
We offer wine education classes, tasting programs and consulting services for small and large events. Participants will taste more than 120 wines, with a retail price over $6,000 . In addition to wine events we also offer spirits tastings including cognac, single malt scotches and rum.
Who might take our courses and programs?
The consumer who has a great deal of knowledge, some knowledge, even those who have been to one or two tastings, can all benefit. Regardless of one's level of experience, there is always so much more to learn. With time, terroir changes, influenced by climate and weather conditions; tastes change; focus and fads change; the wine market changes.
Restaurant owners, managers, wait-staff, bartenders . The Certificate Course will open your senses and palate to 'Old World' and 'New World' styles and tastes and terroir - the must-know essentials for the wine professional.
Retail owners and managers have benefited from our courses. The knowledge and credentials obtained here enhance one's resume and help to build one's professional bio.
Graduates gain the knowledge necessary to advance in the beverage fields, whether the restaurant, the wine shop or their own wine cellars and kitchens.
Instructors and Guest Speakers
The Sommelier Society of America's own core instructors are recognized professionals within the industry. Guest lecturers from many and diverse backgrounds give an added and specialized view of their topics, from how to read a wine label to sipping the wine and its taste-experience.
The Sommelier Society of America has a 'live' person available on a daily basis to engage in discussions on any aspect of wine education and classes. Our liaison will answer questions or direct the call to the appropriate source for the information they seek. Each and every inquiry is valued and care is taken to respond with complete and detailed suggestions, whether it pertains to our own programs or those beyond our ministrations. Our goal is to be there for those who have a curiosity, an inquiry, or a host of questions.
